The Rocky Mountains.

The first time I arrived in Banff on the overnight train from Vancouver in 1986 was to be the first of many visits to Canada and especially the Rocky Mountains.

On my first visit in 1986/87 I was only able to use my 35mm camera, but by the time I came back to the Canadian Rockies in 1990/92 I had invested in a Hasselblad 500c which brought the images of the mountain range fully to life.  The Canmore, Wolverine’s score board could not have had a better back drop with its evergreen trees and Rocky Mountain range, but with day time temperatures of -20 degrees it’s hard to stand around for too long.

The Ice Field Parkway in Alberta Province Western Canada’s Rockies, from Jasper to Lake Louise is 144 miles of snow filled roads, where I felt like stopping every few miles – if I could! The train station in Banff holds many memories as this was the first time I was introduced to Banff and the Canadian Rockies in March 1986, this was after a long over night train ride from Vancouver. On other visits to Vancouver, I have hired a car and driven the 600 or so miles up the scenic route, one year the road was almost snow bound all of the way and I was driving on compact snow – one drive I’ll never forget!

From the Banff Springs Hotel – Chateau Lake Louise – Vancouver – Jasper – and the beautiful town of Field – The Canadian Rockies are truly amazing.
